Last week I had a lot of fun planned into my schedule, but none of it actually happened.
Hannah and I were going to check out Worlds and Oceans of Fun last Tuesday. We bought season passes on Memorial Day and have tried several times to work out a day we could both go. She’s been working so many days lately that’s been rough. But Tuesday morning I woke up with insane old people pains and could hardly walk. What? I am not old, body. Please understand that. Plus how come when I was in Orlando and walking many miles every day I felt fine, but then I got home and sat around too much and got all achy. Not cool. Anyway we had to reschedule.
For weeks, maybe even a month, I had been excited about a series of outdoor movies my town was going to show this summer. We have a brand new library, and next to it there’s a big open space that’s perfect for just such things. Local restaurants were going to be hanging around with food and then we were going to watch Jurassic Park on a giant screen outside. Which is especially exciting because I am so very excited to see Jurassic World this weekend.
They cancelled the whole event around 3pm that day. It’s been rainy a lot (here like everywhere), but that day it hadn’t rained at all so I was watching and thinking it better rain a lot after they cancelled my movie! And oh did it. There were crazy huge thunderstorms and so much water from the sky. So I was glad they cancelled it. But still disappointed.
But there was still one more fun thing left! Weeks ago my high school buddies had planned a get together and I was super excited because it’s been so long since I’ve seen any of them. So many of the girls I love all together talking and laughing so much - it was going to be great. I knew I’d be out that late, and I was getting a bunch of a headache so I decided to set my alarm and lay down for 20 minutes.
I slept right through my alarm. Through several texts. And by the time one of them woke me up it was way too late (it was in another town) to go.
Seriously? That sucked.
This week I have 3 more fun things planned. Tomorrow we’re making a short visit to Worlds of Fun before we head to Starlight to see Camelot. Exciting! I love that show. Since the first time I saw it and my uncle tried to convince me it was going to be a show about a camel farm in the desert. The next day I’m going to get to see my friend Deb. And even though I just saw her on my way home from Orlando I can’t wait. And Friday Hannah and I have plans to see Jurassic World. I’d like to go to a real theatre in KC to see it, but we might have to be happy enough with the small and lame theatre here in town.
So there’s hope. This week might have some fun it in, and I’m looking forward to it.
