Our trip to Lincoln was a whole week ago. Things have been busy and I haven't found the motivation to write about it. It was a fantastic day though, the parts where we weren't driving. I had a super wonderful time.
The night before we went to Lincoln we went to Starlite Theatre in Swope Park. It's a giant beautiful park in KC. Hannah and I bought season tickets to this season's musicals, and Friday was time for "Little House on the Prairie: the Musical"
It was insanely hot that night. And the show - well the performers were really good, but the show left a lot to be desired. The music and especially the lyrics were just sad. We had a hard time making it though the first half, and even though by intermission it had cooled down and wasn't really miserable, H and I took off. Sorry Melissa Gilbert et al. But it was bad.
Of course I took some hipstamatic pictures before things got started...

We drove to my brother's house to crash for the night. I wanted to visit with my brother and sister but I was so tired. Brian and I talked a little bit about how he might move to the Phillappines, Megan and I showed each other the baby clothes we bought for our new niece Theta, and then H and I made a pallet on the floor and crashed out.

We took off early Saturday moring. Picked up the sister Lindsay, grabbed some breakfast and we were off. It's not such a long drive to Lincoln. Nice views and even though Megan's stereo broke for a while we managed to entertain ourselves until we got there.
Our brother's apartment was easy to find, and when we got there they brought out the precious new magic baby niece, Theta Frost Roths. Here's some pictures.

After we spent a couple hours visiting with Theta and her parents, we headed off to see our cousin Simon. He had sustained a serious brain injury about a month before, and had recently been transfered to a recovery center in Lincoln. He was doing so much better than I had imagined. He was great. And it was good seeing most of his giant family. We stayed there for a while, visiting and watching the World Cup, and then we headed back to our brother's.
We were trying to find some chores we could do for them, but they kept saying everything was done and the didn't need anything. We held the baby some more until my old friend Steffanie called.

She also lives in Lincoln, and I hadn't seen her in 9 years. Tragic and unforgivable. She called and gave us directions to her house. We kissed the baby, hugged the parents, and took off in the crazy heat to Steffanie's house.
It was beyond wonderful to see her. Really. She is beautiful and kind and amazing. And she knows me and loves me so well. We stayed for a while but I was not even close to ready to go when it came time. I did not want to leave my SteffMate! But we had to.
Right before we left we took some pictures. Of Steff's daughter in the tree, and of the two S-Mates, all these years later.
The drive back was so much longer than the drive there. And after we got back to Megan's I still had an hour to go. It was past midnight when H and I got and I was sleepy and cranky. But it was a wonderful day and I hope we do it again next month!!
