Remember last fall when I had to go to a funeral in Louisiana? Yeah that was sad. But here's one thing about it that's not super sad - it was in the city of Lafayette - named for my hero and yours, Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, Marquis de La Fayette. Or just Lafayette if you're singing some Hamilton.
One morning, on my way to the local Target for some room freshener, I drove past this.
Of course I couldn't tell from the road, but on my way back I pulled over to check, and of course it was.
I mean it does make sense. The city is named after him.
The sun was right behind us and I didn't manage to get a great shot of this memorial, but these are still fun. Especially for me. It was a sad time this statue was a great cheer to me every time I passed it.
In case you don't love Hamilton, here's a bit of the lyrics of the song this title came from:
Yo. Turns out we have a secret weapon!
An immigrant you know and love who’s unafraid to step in!
He’s constantly confusin’, confoundin’ the British henchmen
Ev’ryone give it up for America’s favorite fighting Frenchman!
I’m takin this horse by the reins makin’
Redcoats redder with bloodstains
And I’m never gonna stop until I make ‘em
Drop and burn ‘em up and scatter their remains, I’m
Watch me engagin’ em! Escapin’ em!
Enragin’ em! I’m Lafayette!
I go to France for more funds
I come back with more
