I need to figure out what kind of images I'll share before the trip.
Until then, here's someone else's photo of my ship.
I spent most of my life thinking I never wanted to go on a cruise. There were a lot of reasons. One is that you one get to stop in a city for a day, which really barely scratches the surface. Also I sometimes get a little motion sick, but I mostly believe people that you really barely feel the motion of the ship. Mostly I have been afraid of feeling trapped. I’m a little claustrophobic. I know my room will be cramped, but more than that it’s the “I’m stuck in the middle of the ocean/sea and there’s nothing I can do.” trapped feeling. (I’m still a tiny bit worried, but how can I know until I try it, right? I guess?)
The first time I thought it might be worth checking out was when my travel agent friend told me that on a Disney cruise, they’ll bring you a Mickey Bar any time you want, day or not. Well, hmmm. It was time to reconsider. Mickey Bars are a big deal.
Then my brother was thinking of taking our mom on a cruise to Alaska. Not only was I sure about a cruise, but I also have hardly any desire to go to Alaska. I don’t like cold. But our mom wanted another person to go with them (a nice even 4some), so I started reading about cruises and thinking about how it might be. The idea was short lived so I forgot all about it.
A few weeks ago I was having lunch with the travel agent friend. She’s going on a cruise soon so I asked her to tell me about it. I thought maybe. Maybe.
About two weeks later, my brother said he was thinking about taking a Caribbean cruise. “Take Mom!” I said. So they talked, and my sweet mom again said she’d love to go but really wanted me to go along. So now we’re all going a cruise! We’re booked and have plane tickets and all that. No backing out now.
Actually although I’m a little worried about a few things (marine perils and suck) I’m really excited about having a fun time with my family! I hope my mom has the best time ever. She so deserves it.
I’m reading tons of trip reports and tips and everything I can find about our ships and our ports. It’s a Western Caribbean tour so we’ll be stopping at a private island in Haiti, Falmouth Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. If you have any advice about those stops or cruises in general - I’d love to hear!!
