Well, I have not been updating here at all, have I?
I have worked or gone to class every day since my Traditions class last Friday so I haven’t really had much free time until today. I couldn’t get into the parks for free until that class so I’ve also had to visit the parks this last week as well (had to). My long time friend Leilani has been here as well, and I got to spend a few hours one day with her, and two of my the friends I made online months ago got here in the last week so I also got to meet them. More about all that coming up, but it has been busy!
But I have today and tomorrow off, so in addition to grocery shopping (I’ve been eating way too many sandwiches), finishing the settling in process, Disney shopping before my extra bonus discount expires, and meeting up with a friend who lives in Orlando hopefully at a park I am going to finally let you all know what I’ve been up to!
I’ll go back to the mostly boring check in week later and start this off with the much more exciting last week of classes, job training and park playing.
Last Friday was my Traditions class. Traditions is Disney’s orientation class where you learn a little about how giant the company is and what they are about. I admit it was a rough start for me. I was on a bus at 6 and there were some bussing issues at my bus stop. We were a little late taking off and during the drive when the bus lurched a girl in heels stomped my foot and ended up in my lap. I didn’t really feel the same pixie dusted magic a lot of people do in that class, but! I did get to tour the tunnels under the Magic Kingdom and take a quick tour through the park. Most importantly, I got Mickey ears, my cast member id, and the main mouse himself brought me my name tag.
All of our names were up on a slideshow before class started.
Me in my Mickey hat.
Cast member ID! I was official!
On our tour of the MK.
My new boss.
My name tag says Johnson County Community College, which is where I was enrolled last semester, but you know my heart really belongs to my alma mater, the University of Kansas. Because of that, and because no one has an idea where Johnson County CC is, I ordered a name tag that says Lawrence, KS instead. It’ll be here in 2 weeks.
I went home, ate a sandwich and watched a couple of episodes of General Hospital on the big TV in the living room while I waited for my roomie to get home. We were going to go to the Magic Kingdom together, but she was having big time car problems. Oh no! She lives in Miami so instead of playing over her two days off, she drove home to switch out cars with her other half. I grabbed a bag and headed out to the Magic Kingdom for my first visit as a Cast Member.
Dream Along with Mickey was going on in front of the castle when I got there! It’s easily my favorite Disney show ever so I was loving my life. It’s about the power of dreams and it makes me all misty eyed every time. The crowd gets to chant “Dreams Come True” with Mickey and the gang, and then Mickey says -- get ready, it’s super corny -- “By remembering about the power of dreams you reminded us all that when we believe in ourselves and our friends and our family, why, there’s nothing we can’t do! Gee, when you find the dream inside your heart anything is possible!”
When my least favorite part of the show came on, I darted over to the snack cart and got myself a Mickey bar (#2 so far) and enjoyed it for the rest of the show.
Mickey bar #2.
When it was over, of course I headed over to see if Buzz was out. He was on a break, but there was a tiny bit of a line so I joined it and had fun chatting with a couple kids who were super excited to meet him. The dance party was going on and the music is always loud enough to hear in that line, and Buzz’s attendant was dancing away. When I got to the front of the line he looked at me and said “Oh, a big kid!” D’uh. We chatted about Buzz for a while and then it was my turn for my first meet and greet with my favorite Disney boyfriend on this adventure.
He was a charming gentleman as always and I had a blast.
After that, a stop for my first cast member discounted purchase, a Buzz Lightyear jacket. I chatted with the CM about it being my first CM purchase and she gave me a lot of good tips of where to find merchandise at a great discount. How fun.
Next up was a wander around Fantasyland just taking it all in.
In case you were wondering, here's how the moat is looking right now. Also, the hub area is kind of a mess right now, and the Partners statue is all boxed up! I heard that will change soon though, and I will keep you updated :).
And then dinner at Pinocchio’s Village House. I took my flatbread up to the little balcony upstairs and enjoyed one of my favorite views in the Magic Kingdom.
View from the balcony.
I had been up since 5 so I was getting pretty tired. I had to be on a bus the next morning by 8 so I headed out before Wishes (the fireworks show), came home, chatted with my new roomies and crashed pretty hard.
All these photos were taken with either my cell phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) or my Nikon Coolpix S6000.
