Sunday, February 1
Sunday’s class was my Tier 1 merchandise training. I learned a lot of things, but the most important part was that I got my costume. I’m just going to show you and not comment.
Check out the look in my eyes in this picture though.
I worked from 9 to 5:30. My roommate Dianne was in my park (Epcot) and we had planned for me to join her for dinner in any of the delicious restaurants in the World Showcase, but man I was worn out. She offered to meet me at the front of the park and we went to a restuarant called Bahama Breeze. We both has a salad; mine was the chicken Caesar and man it was perfect. And just what I needed.
After that we came home and got ready for bed.
Monday, February 2
I was back at Disney University on Monday. My class was called Merchantainment, which wasn’t nearly as exciting as it might sound. We mostly had an intro to how to use the registers and how to handle money. Luckily I’ve done all that before so it wasn’t too tough.
I was done in the early afternoon. I had taken my lunch but didn’t get a lunch break so I sat in the car with the windows down and ate before I headed home. I changed clothes and headed out to the Magic Kingdom to meet my friend Leilani! For those of you who don’t know her, we met at Girl Scout camp in the mid 70s and then ended up in High School together. She’s a Disney travel agent and was here for travel agent meetings, but she and her friend had time to hang out with me for a while that afternoon and I was so, so happy to see her.
I got to the park just in time to catch the 3 o’clock parade. It was a Festival of Fantasy. I mostly just watched, but I did have to take a couple pictures. I can’t not. Here's one.
I sat on the curb and waited for Leilani, and just when I decided I was too bored and I was going to head into a store, I heard someone shout “Shelly Lightyear!” (I was wearing my new Buzz jacket). She gave me the best hug ever, introduced me to her friend and then we all headed down Main Street USA.
We headed to the FastPass+ kiosk to see if I could get FPs at the same time as theirs, and I could for both the Buzz Lightyear ride and Big Thunder mountain, but I wasn’t surprised that the brand new Mine Train was all booked up.
It wasn’t quite time for Buzz so we decided to check out the Carousel of Progress. Someone in one of the other theatres must have kept standing up so they had to keep stopping the ride. Seriously. We kept thinking we were about to start and then the song would just start over. The last time the guy came over the speakers to tell us stay seated he sounded really annoyed. But it worked and after 4 tries we finally got on with the story. Leilani and I sang along the whole time. Fun!
I think we headed for Buzz after that. Leilani’s friend outscored us by a lot! Here we are trying to beat the evil emperor Zurg (yes I know my hair is out of control).
Next up was the tea cup ride.
It's hard not to laugh a lot when you're inside a giant spinning tea cup whirling about with 2 other grown women.
Haunted Mansion's wait time was very short so we rode that, and then headed over to Big Thunder Mountain!
The sun was setting and everything was looking especially gorgeous.
Leilani’s friend noticed a bunch of people taking pictures so she stopped to see what it was and it was the moon looking amazing over Cinderella’s castle. The whole bridge was full of people taking pictures, so of course we stopped and joined in. I only had my phone and my point and shoot, so it’s not nearly as good as it could be.
Thunder Mountain was as incredible as ever. It’s really the best after dark. I don’t think it’s possible for me to not have a great time on that ride. It always makes me happy.
We were looking for a place to sit and be warm for a while after that, so we found a table at Pinocchios. We chatted for a while and I waited for them to go ride the Mine Train. We met up after and all headed over to the Contemporary. They were going for dinner at the California Grill and I was going to meet up with my roomie Dianne and our friends Adam and Monica!
Adam was the first DCP friend I made. We met in the Facebook group for people planning to apply for this program. He has done it before and had been a campus rep at his school. He helped me so much while we were waiting and was an incredible encouragement to me whenever I had a freak out (which might have been often). That group is also where I met Monica and Dianne and we all became super good friends during the process, and chatted pretty much every day for many, many months so I was beyond excited to finally meet them in person.
They were both great and just like I thought they’d be. And it did not at all seem like we were just meeting, it felt like we’d been friends for ages. Because we have.
In addition to the food, Chef Mickey’s has Mickey and all his best friends. We met them all.
By the time we left I was exhausted from another long day. And like most days since I’ve been here, it was part boring, part hard and part awesome.
